In 2004 The McPherson Healthcare Foundation facilitated a community-wide fund drive for Brad & Rachel Goebel of McPherson, Ks. to address the urgent medical care of their twin daughters Candice & Cadence. While experiencing the jubilation of knowing that Rachel was pregnant with twins, they also experienced the devastation of learning their daughters were diagnosed with a rare disease known as Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome.

Faced with the immediate need of a life-saving surgical procedure that was available at limited locations, Brad & Rachel turned to the generosity of the community. Within 48 hours the funds were collected and wired to the facility. 72 hours later the surgery was performed. The procedure proved to be too little too late and both Candice & Cadence were lost to this disease.

The Goebels established this fund in honor of their daughters to express their immense gratitude for the community’s generosity. This gratitude has been transposed into funds available to any Kansas resident with little or no health insurance coverage for assistance with medical procedures required for the treatment of Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome.
